Eckhoff is one of Norway’s most versatile designers and the creator of several design classics. He is a pioneer in the field of industrial design, embodying the Scandinavian design movement and the concept of crafting beautiful and functional everyday objects for people.
Eckhoff completed his education in ceramic arts at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, graduating in 1945. Over the years, he has worked with a variety of materials, designing items ranging from porcelain and cutlery to furniture.
His exceptional work has garnered numerous awards, including the Lunning Prize, Jacob Prize, Classic Prize, and gold medals at the Milan Triennale.
Eckhoff's designs are featured in prestigious museums worldwide, such as the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. One of his notable creations, the stacking chair Ana, designed for RBM in 1980, has been produced in millions of copies. Among his other successful products are the Maya Cutlery (1962) for Norstaal (now Stelton) and keys for TrioVing.
